OVERVIEW:
The Unesco World Heritage Site of Phong Nha - Ke Bang national park is a paradise for adventurers and to many it’s the heaven on earth for beautiful caves and landscapes that you wish to visit this place at least once in your life. Amongst various comfortable means of transportation to Phong Nha, taking a drive from the nearby Hue capital city is a great combination to explore Vietnam's historic sites as well as less told stories of the past war and the amazing caves of Phong Nha. This tour involves a little bit of walking uphill but is generally at an easy level suitable for most travellers of average fitness level.

Itineraries
Day 1
HUE TO DONG HOI
This morning, you will be picked up at your hotel in Hue to begin your journey to Quang Binh. Stop along the way at the Ben Hai River, the natural border separating North and South Vietnam between 1954 and 1975, which was located in the middle of the infamous DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Also visit the impressive Vinh Moc tunnel complex, a series of underground tunnels locals used to literally bury their village to escape heavy bombardment during the Vietnam war. Tunnels here reach a depth of 30 metres and were constructed in several stages between 1966 and 1972. Around 60 families lived in the tunnels, and as many as 17 children were born inside, and include wells, kitchens, rooms for each family and spaces for healthcare. Explore the tunnels and a small museum before continuing to Dong Hoi. Arrive in Dong Hoi in the late afternoon.
Day 2
PHONG NHA – KE BANG
Recognized as a world heritage site in 2003 Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park boasts stunning limestone karst mountains, caves and grottoes. Along with stunning natural beauty the national park is home to the largest dry cave in Asia including Paradise Cave and the largest single cave passage in the world (Son Doong Cave).
This morning drive to the magnificent Paradise Cave and walk, or take an electric cart, to the base of a mountain where you can walk up a pathway or climb around 500 steps before entering this vast cave. Walk along wooden pathways more than 1 km into this huge cave which at 31.4 kilometres in depth is the largest dry cave in Asia.
Transfer through the beautiful Quang Binh countryside to the small village of Son Trach for lunch (not included) before taking an open boat journey to the Phong Nha and Tien Son caves. Continue by boat into the spectacular Phong Nha cave which the Cham people use as Buddhist sanctuaries in the 9th and 10th centuries. Afterwards walk up the 300 steps to Tien Son Cave which you can enter before returning by boat to Son Trach village.
Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 3
HUE
After breakfast, drive back to Hue, where your tour ends.
