Summary
Designed for true adventure-seekers, conservation enthusiasts, and travelers looking to disconnect, this immersive 3-day expedition goes deep into the core zones of Cat Tien National Park. Moving beyond standard park-fringe tours, this rugged itinerary features an overnight stay directly inside the rainforest at a remote park ranger outpost overlooking the pristine Bau Sau (Crocodile Lake) wetlands. Over three days, travelers will trek through ancient cedar forests, canoe and swim in jungle lakes, visit an island sanctuary for rescued primates, and experience the cultural heritage of the Stieng and Ma ethnic minorities while staying at a community-run longhouse.

DAY 1: HO CHI MINH CITY – TREK TO BAU SAU (CROCODILE LAKE)
Depart Ho Chi Minh City at 08:30 by private vehicle, traveling north toward the dense ecosystems of Cat Tien National Park. Break the journey for lunch at a local regional restaurant before entering the park limits.
Upon arrival at the park center, trade your main vehicle for a 10-kilometer deep-forest drive, arriving at the trailhead. From here, embark on an immersive 5-kilometer trek through the primary tropical rainforest. The path leads you into the heart of the reserve, showcasing the majestic beauty of ancient cedar trees and complex vine networks. Arrive at Bau Sau (Crocodile Lake), a serene water garden known for its poetic, lyrical landscapes. Check into your rustic accommodation—a functional park rangers' outpost—and spend the late afternoon enjoying the peaceful, wild scenery as dusk falls over the wetland.
- Meals: Lunch, Dinner
- Overnight: Ranger Outpost Guest House, Bau Sau (Basic forest accommodation: shared facilities, no air conditioning/fans, powered by limited solar/generator).
DAY 2: BAU SAU RAINFOREST TREK – DAO TIEN PRIMATE SANCTUARY – TA LAI LONG HOUSE
Awaken to the early morning mist and sounds of the wetland. Enjoy a simple breakfast prepared by the park rangers before checking out. Begin your morning trek back out through the dense rainforest, observing the active morning wildlife and bird species under the canopy.
After returning to the park center, take a short boat crossing to Dao Tien Island. Operated in collaboration with the Endangered Asian Species Trust (EAST) and Monkey World UK, this dedicated facility focuses on rehabilitating primates and lorises rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Learn how international specialists and volunteers nurse these animals back to physical and behavioral health before releasing them into the wild. After a refreshing lunch at the main park restaurant, take a 12-kilometer drive to Ta Lai Village. Check into the Ta Lai Long House—a traditional ethnic structure funded by the WWF—offering a surprisingly comfortable, homely eco-lodge experience along the lake.
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
- Overnight: Ta Lai Ethnic Long House, Cat Tien
DAY 3: TA LAI JUNGLE LAKE CYCLING & KAYAKING – HO CHI MINH CITY
Rise early to catch the fresh morning air and the rich symphonies of forest birds. The stunning lakeside location of the Ta Lai Long House offers an ideal setting for an early morning swim or a peaceful kayak excursion across the calm waters.
Gather for breakfast at the Long House before setting off on a cycling trip around the commune. Pedal into the heart of the neighboring Stieng and Ma ethnic minority villages. Your guide will share the history of these indigenous communities, who once lived deep inside the national park before relocating to the Ta Lai borders as part of the park's long-term conservation and protection framework. Return to the longhouse to relax on a hammock, soak in the panoramic landscape views, and enjoy a final local lunch.
