Visit to the remarkable Cu Chi tunnels used by Viet Cong during Vietnam war
Visit the home of Cao Dai religion. A chance to witness their noon ceremony
Overview
The tour combines two major attractions around Saigon, Cu Chi Tunnels and Cao Dai Temple. The tunnels of Cu Chi are an immense network of connecting tunnels located in Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh city, and are a part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. You will explore the amazing tunnels, try to fit your body on camouflaged trap door and experience the life of Viet Cong soldiers underground. The tour continues with a visit to Cao Dai Great Temple in Tay Ninh Province and learning about traditional cultural practices.
Itinerary
Your Travelmates guide will meet you at 7am for a journey west to Cu Chi. The tunnel network stretches over 250km and extends to three levels underground providing you with remarkable insight into the hardships, courage, determination and terror of a guerrilla war.
On arrival you will be guided through the famous tunnels used by the communist guerrillas during the Vietnam War. Explore the tunnel site, which includes weapon and booby trap exhibitions, navigating authentic Viet Cong tunnel, visiting different underground bunkers (kitchens, meeting rooms, ammunitions etc.), a firing range and much more. Try the local cassava root that sustained Viet Cong fighters for years.
You’ll then continue to Cao Dai Great Temple (Thanh That Cao Dai) to witness the noon service of the unusual religion of Cao Daiism. Cao Dai is a mix of all the world’s great religions, including Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam. Prayers are conducted four times daily in the Great Temple and it’s worth visiting during prayer sessions. Enjoy walking around the inner corridor and looking at the colourful painting on the wall and the pillars.
After lunch (not included) you will return to Saigon at approximately 4pm where the tour ends.
Note: Please ensure your knees and shoulders are covered before entering the temple. Visitors are not allowed to walk into the middle area of the temple.
